New View Needs You!

Is anyone else having a hard time believing it’s already mid-August?
Why does time start to seem like it’s moving so much faster once you’re out of school?  I have a theory that it’s because your life isn’t broken into school years anymore, but I haven’t put too much thought into it.
Anyway, even though it’s August, New View is already looking forward to an amazing 2012!  We’ve had some great ideas come up for events, but we want to hear what you think.
What kinds of events do you want to attend?  Happy hours are good.  Lunches with a presenter are good; I’ve learned A TON this year at those luncheons already!
But what else?  Would you enjoy team building activities?  Perhaps more education on area businesses?  Trends in midwest business/global economy? Something a little more social?  Please share your ideas because we want to benefit you, the young professional reading this, more than anyone!

West Side Night at the Iowa State Fair?

I’ve heard from multiple people that a West Side Night at the Iowa State Fair this Saturday (Aug. 13) may be in the works.  Nothing formally announced, as far as I know.  But one of the bars on the fairgrounds is hosting it.  Which one?  No idea!
I’m really writing this post in an effort to get some information.  If you know anything about West Side Night at the Iowa State Fair, please please please share!
Either way, I’ll be there on Saturday.  I’ll do my best snooping around to find the elusive West Side Night.

Walk the Barley Boulevard this Saturday!

Enjoy beer tasting, BBQ, music and good entertainment all while supporting an excellent cause!  Come out to the Second Annual Barley Par-Tee this Saturday, August 6th, from 6:30pm-10:30pm at Living History Farms. We’ve all been to boring fundraisers with speakers and bland hors d’oeuvres where you can’t wait to leave!  This is not one of those fundraisers.  I was able to participate in this unique fundraiser last year and am so proud to be promoting this second installment!
The event blends a unique game of golf called “Pasture Golf,” which is set on Living History Farms pasture lands, with beer sampling (around 25 different microbrews) courtesy of the Iowa Brewers Union, a BBQ meal courtesy of the Iowa Barbequers.  All proceeds from the event go to the Link Associates Foundation. Link Associates’ mission is to provide adults with mental disabilities opportunities to achieve their personal goals through programming options and service management.
Link Associates worked hard to find sponsors and golf participants for the event and we are proud to announce that 25 local businesses have agreed to sponsor our event and the golf portion is now closed because so many participants signed up!  There will be 50 golfers broken into foursomes who will be playing Pasture Golf at the event. Though golf is closed, the other portions of the event are still open to you.  So come out and take part in the beer tour/tasting, the BBQ meal, music, a Silent Auction, and of course the general entertainment of watching the players “golf.”
Take a walk on the Barley Boulevard for a minimum donation of $25. Your donation will get you a mug and a sampling of all the available microbrews at the event, all while you walk through the Pasture Golf course, watching the golfers take their hacks on our challenging, creative course. Of course, if you don’t want to walk the Boulevard, the ultimate destination is the Barley table with all the brews available for tasting while you listen to music from our live band - The Eldorados.
If you aren’t interested in the beer sampling, you will still enjoy all the other aspects of this event, which supports a wonderful cause. $8.00 gets you a delicious BBQ meal including a sandwich, bag of chips, and pop/water. There is also a silent auction with wonderful pieces waiting for your bid!  Another special addition: credit cards are accepted!
Personally, I would be honored to see a great showing from the young professionals in the area for any and all portions of the event!

Hope to see you out there!
